Sk,
You do not indicate the years you are researching. I attach a copy of the Tithe record for Aughamore in the parish of Columbkille, Granard, Co. Longford 1823 which has a number of "Whitney".
The records can be accessed for free at www.nationalarchives.ie/geneology
According to Dr. Edward MacLysaght the surname is in Leinster since the 14th century and comes from a place in England.
If you check Griffith's Valuations - 1846 - 1860 for property holders at www.askaboutireland.ie and the Irish census for 1901 at www.nationalarchives.ie/census Both are free Sites, you will get more recent records.
Regards,
McCoy
