My 2 great grandfather William Clancy left County Leitrim with his wife, Ellen (Farrell or Feely?), and children about 1848 and went to Ontario, Canada. I hope to find out where they lived in Leitrim and if any ancestors are still there!

Clancey:
Clancy was/is a very common surname in Co. Leitrim. I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find the marriage record or any baptismal records for the children of William and Ellen. Likely they lived in a parish where records are not available pre-1848. In looking at the 1857 Griffiths Valuation records most Clancy households were in either Rossinver or Cloonclare civil parishes in North Leitrim. The Rossinver RC records start in 1851 and the Cloonclare records start in 1841. My guess is that the William Clancy and Ellen Farrell/Feely were from Rossinver civil parish.
Have you considered a DNA test? Possibly you will have matches with 3rd cousins who have more info on the origins of the family in Co. Leitrim.

Many thanks for your kind reply. I also thought that William Clancy may have lived in Rossinver or Cloonclare. I will concentrate my search in those areas. And thanks for the suggestion to do a DNA test, in order to possibly find third cousins!
Kind regards,
Carol Clancey (an e was added to Clancy when my great-grandfather left Canada to claim land in Michigan, USA, after serving in the US Civil War!)
