I'm looking for any information please on a William Condon who I think was born around 1848-1849 as he was 52 during the 1901 census.

He lived in Annaholty in Tipperary. He was married to a Mary Mc Cormack / Mary M'Cormack / Mary Mc Cormick from what i can gather on Ancestry.co.uk - who I am also looking for info on. One of their children was Winifred, who was my great grandmother.

I can't find a marriage certficate. It looks like they had a son called Michael in Anaholty, Tipperary and then had another son in Limerick, Richard Condon (son) in 1878. It looks like he died when he was 4- also in Limerick.

But then the death certficate for Richard lists a step father - even though William was still alive.

Am a little stuck!

Any suggestions/help/knowledge  - please do let me know

Thank you

Jane

I think there were two separate William Condon Mary McCormack families at the same time, One in Limericck and one in Tipperary.

The subscription site Roots Ireland has a August 20 1876 marriage record in the Castleconnell RC parish in Co. Limerick for William Condon and Mary McCormack. I did not locate a civil marriage record and I looked across Ireland. I found six civil birth records for children of this couple: Michael 1877 Bridget 1879 William 1883 Maria 1886 Elizabeth 1889 Winifred 1892 all in Annaholty

Mary McCormack Condon died in 1900 see fifth record   https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…

The RC parish of Castleconnell borders Kilcomenty parish in Co. Tipperary which included Anna holty so likely William and Mary did not live far apart and the marriage was held in the bride's parish.

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Thank you so much for this.

I have the death certifcate for Mary but i couldn't find one for William or their marriage certficate.

Also, if there were two of these couples - that makes sense why I'm getting confused.

Would you say the RootsIreland is worth the money? We already pay for Ancestry but seem to be drawing a blank.

I also didn't have a Maria - she must have died at a young age as she doesn't appear on the 1901 census (though there is a Mary Anne)

    Thank you!

  • Also, both Williams seem to have the same birth year. 1849 - including a prison record in Limerick for being drunkenly. So confusing!

I don't know how many Irish families you have but Roots Ireland does offer one day and one month subscriptions.
