  • Hi Liz,

I have checked the records on www.rootsireland.ie and eventhought there are several (7) William Kerry's listed in Laois, Fermanagh, Offally, Antrim and County Westmeath no William born around 1770.

The problem lies probably in the fact that baptism registrations  from before 1800 are very hard to come by, most parishes started proper registration around 1800 and civil registration did not start till 1864 in Ireland.

Did you find more information about him in the UK, like what was his occupation, did he marry, who did he marry, when did he die, how old was he when he died. Also if he married a marriage cert from the Uk might reveal his parents names, age and maybe even where he was from. Or try to find his death cert

    Kind regards,

    Annemarie

  • Hi Annemarie

Thank you for your reply and looking through the records. William was a weaver, He did marry, I have a possible marriage for him in London in 1807 but there were only churchwardens as witnesses, no relations. He settled in a village around 1810, then disappeared again sometime after 1832 - not many records survive there to check, No trace of him in England after that I can find, so I'm looking for him here. We've always speculated that he could have been Irish.

    Thanks again
