I am looking for information on William Moore born June 24 1832 in Ireland. I have tried every search I can think of to find my Irish roots but they stop at William. The limited information I have about him was he was born in Ireland (I don't know where) and we believe he came to America when he was 18 or so. There is a rumor he came with his brother and that they lost touch once here. He eventually moved to Tennesee and married S Elizabeth Baird (could be Eliza or something similar but pretty sure it is Elizabeth) September 23, 1872. They had 4 children (that I know of)  Margaret, Louise, Michael, and an infant that died but I don't have a name. He died June 18, 1905 in Tennesee. We believe Dickson County but not 100% sure on it.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your message.

Unfortunately, it may be difficult to find records relating to William without more information, most importantly a specific place of origin. Most Irish record sources- church records, land records, census records- are based on specific locations. Until you know a specific location within Ireland, preferably a parish or placename, it may be difficult to do anything more with these records.

Have you tried looking in to William?s emigration? Perhaps if you can find his immigration record there maybe a place of origin listed and perhaps you may be able to find his brother?s name. Some websites that may be useful are:

    Ellis Island: http://www.ellisisland.org/search/passSearch.asp

    Castlegarden: http://www.castlegarden.org/

    US National Archives/Immigration info: http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/

    Boston Pilot: http://infowanted.bc.edu/

There are a few places where you can search for church records in Ireland online, however you need to remember that William Moore is a very common name so without more information it may be difficult to determine if the records you find are relevant:

www.familysearch.org Have some Irish birth and baptism records available

http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ Have records from Kerry, Dublin, Carlow and parts of COrk uploaded to their website frr of charge.

www.rootsireland.ie have a vast collection of Irish Church records but you have to pay to use this site.

Some other websites that you may find helpful are:

The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/

The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm

    Irish Times: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/index.htm

Remember to post any new information that you find on William here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

    Kind regards,

  • I have searched every site you posted above and All I get is what I have below. As you can see the only further information I can seem to find is that he came over on the Constitution from Liverpool and was a Tailor. From the looks of it I am not seeing any evidence that he came over with a brother after all.
