I am looking for any information on William Holliday & his wife Sarah Caldwell Holliday. They were both born and were married  in Ireland. William was born on Oct. 27, 1784 , Sarah was born Feb, 1789. Their first two children were also born there Ann on April 5, 1811 & (my ancestor) John William Holliday on Oct. 18, 1813. They came to America in 1817 leaving Belfast & landing in New York in July 1817 on the ship "Down". I do not know where they lived but it could have been near Ballymoney but I have no proof of this. I have a cousin who will be soon visiting Ireland & would like more information if possible. We have seached for years but have no clue..Can anyone help us. Thank you, Thelma Moye

  • Most records do not go back as far as 1784 but I  did find some William Holliday's born in 1792 County Antrim.

Sarah was baptised at St Rosemary Presbyterian Church  in  Belfast , Antrim in 1792  (http://www.nspresbyterian.org/pages/history.htm)

Where did they live after they arrived in the USA ?

  • They moved to Northern New York at Morristown, Saint Lawrence County, That is where the other 6 children were born. As far as I know William & Sarah never moved anywhere else. The Children John William Holliday (in 1838) moved across ( between Kingston,Ontario, Canada & Cape Vincent, Jefferson Co. NY) the St. Lawrence river to an Island "Wolfe Island" where some of his descendants live today. My grandmother (his granddaugther was born there & in 1905 she married my grandfather & moved to Jefferson Co., NY. Some of the other children lived in the Morristown area & a couple of them moved to Wisconson. I have the list of descendants down from them but have never had any luck going back. Their birthdates were passed down generations to me. We had a cousin years ago visit Belfast but was unable to find any records there. Wolfe Island , the biggest of "The Thousand island" had a lot of Irish people move there & are still there. I host about 7 different web sites on genealogy which can be located by putting my name in a internet search engine. ( Thelma Moye). Will also try & help anyone looking for genealogy in these areas.
