I am looking for other desendents of William Worrell born 1798 died 17.3.1868 and his wife Mary Worrell born 1808 died 25-3-1867 in Rosenallis.  My Great Grandmother was their youngest child (5 children).  Her name was Annie Worrell.  She was born 1st November 1853 in Rosenallis.  I would love to contact any descendents of their 4 other children.  Some may have gone to US.  Other children were:  Thomas (1839), Maria (1842) Margaret (1844) and Joseph (1846). Annie (1853). Joseph died in Maitland Australia.  I will be in Ireland in May/June 2013.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your message.

Have you tried looking in the 1901/1911 census records for any family members that may have remained in the area? Unfortunately, these are the latest records that are available at the moment. You can search them here:

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

I hope that someone on the message boards recognises the Worrell name and makes a connection with you.

In the meantime it may also be an idea to place this message in a more local forum in the hope that someone from the area will recognise the name. There may be a greater chance of finding a response before May/June if you put the message in as many places as you can! Some possible places you may be able to do this are:

    Laois Nationalist: http://www.laois-nationalist.ie/

    Leinster Express: http://www.leinsterexpress.ie/

County Laois Irish Genealogy Project: http://www.igp-web.com/laois/index.htm

You could also try contacting Irish Midlands Ancestry for assistance tracing any family members in the area. However a fee will apply. Here are their contact details:

    Irish Midlands Ancestry,

    Bury Quay,

    Tullamore,

    Co. Offaly.

I am delighted to hear that you are planning a visit this year. We have recently added a new link to the top of our page for people who are planning a visit in 2013. It takes you to a short web form, we would greatly appreciate it if you could take a couple of minutes to complete it. Thank you!

    Kind regards,

  • Hi,

My Great Grandmother is also Annie Elizabeth Worrell.

I have very little information on her family. Any data on this that you could impart to me would be much appreciated.

    Kind Regards

    Mark McAndrew

  • Hi

Have you had any success with your research?

I see you'll be coming to Ireland in May/June - that's great! Just to let know, Heritage Week is celebrated in Ireland in August - this year it will be 17th to 25th August. Mountmellick will be celebrating heritage week - this will include Rosenallis. You can find details at http://www.thegatheringireland.com/View-Gatherings/Individual-Gathering/Mountmellick-A-Tapestry-of-History/17%20August%202013/3522

I know they are doing a lot on ancestry and geneology and hope to bring people on tours, etc and organise family gatherings so that people researching their ancestry can have an opportunity to see where they lived and possibly meet descendants / relatives. You won't be in Ireland at this time, but they are also putting together a list of people trying to research their ancestry. During this week & at a community level people from Mountmellick & Rosenallis will be trying to piece together as much of this ancestry as possible - using local records, local knowledge, etc.  One of those helping out is a local historian from Rosenallis who is has studied Mountmellick & Rosenallis as far back at the early 1600s.

If you haven't managed to find what you are looking for before Heritage Week let me know & I will pass on all the information you have collected to date for inclusion in Heritage Week.

Annie Worrell was born in Rosenallis on 1st November 1855 and died on 17 Apr 1934 in Rockdale, New South Wales, Australia.  Her parents were William (1798-1868) and Mary (1808-1867) Worrell of Rosenallis.  I will call over to Rosenallis this weekend to see if I can find out anymore.

Do you know if Annie Worrell was a Quaker?  Rosenallis was a Quaker town and Worrell is a popular Quaker name in the US,...

    Kind regards

    Mary

  • Hi Mark

I have been in contact with Darryl for a while now.  We were all kids together.  My mother was Jean Hall.  You are younger than us and may not remember visiting when we were in Cairns and you were in Mareeba.  I was lucky enough to see Nan a couple more times before she died.  I have sent Darryl some emails I received when I wrote to a couple of newspapers.  We will be over there for a tour then a week free from 31st May.  Trying to find any living issue like us but am aware that there may have been many name changes.  You can get my email off Darryl if you like.

  • Her family was Church of Ireland according to the records.  She became Church of England when she went to Australia.  I don't know whether she was a Quaker.  I realise that there may not be any or many living issue with the same name due to marriage.  I shall bring copies of what I have for your records.    I believe that there are graves in Rosenallis and mountmellick.  I will be touring (bus) for about 11 days then will be free to have a good look around from 31st May until 7th June.  Will book a hotel today as everything seems quite close there.

  • Hi Jennifer

I've come across a couple of Worrells outside Mountmellick town, but you're right, it isn't a popular name here.

The local Church of Ireland is St. Paul's.  It's in the centre of town with the graveyard beside it.  The national school is also St. Paul's and is also beside the Church.  They may be able to help as many children come from outside of the town to go to school.  http://www.schooldays.ie/school/st-pauls-n-s-rollnumber-19369G.  You could ask them to send a note home with the children to ask their parents, etc. if they are aware of any Worrells still living in the area.

    Hope that helps!

    Mary

  • Thanks you Mary.  I will do that.  I do think it is probably the case that all the relatives will be passed on.  With all the travel back then and now, I would be surprised to find anyone still living there.  It is worth a try.  All of my Great grandmother's children's children are all around Australia in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and North Queensland.  I am looking forward to spending a couple of days in Rosenallis and Mountmellick.
