Am searching for families of Johnston , Bell, or Knox families in the County of Antrim, I don't know much more. Patrick Johnston immigrated early 1800s we think, ending up near Brockville in Ontario Canada, his wife Louisa Bell Knox immigrated at about the same time and she was will her family. There were parents, a couple of sisters, and I think her mother may have been listed under Bell, her dads name was Knox I believe or she may have had a step father on board. 

Their children were Samuel, John, Stewart, Louisa Johnston can't remember anymore at this time.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated I have photo of Patrick Johnston, as well as his wife Louisa Bell Knox Johnston I will post.

    There are quite a few public member trees on ancestry with this family.

    They have Louisa Knox born 1822 but I found this one on www.rootsireland.ie/:

    It's the only one for Antrim around 1822 - Eliza could easily sound like or be mis-transcribed as Lousia but Blair & Bell is a bit of  stretch

    The birth years for Patrick vary considerably - from 1819 to 1829 but I couldn't find one in Antrim; the Johnston tree has his birth as 1819 Bally Easton, Antrim and cites sources as the Canadian Censuses of 1861, 81 & 91 & the Ontario Deaths 1869-1938.

    Hi Col,

    Thanks so much for that info. What you see on Ancestry would be either from myself or two of my cousins, boths Johnstons.  So we only have this little bit of information , no one knows when the immigrated and to exactly where they landed. I think Montreal, since they settled near Brockville Ontario.  Patrick is a very common name among the Irish and Johnston I sure is nearly as common. I do have a photo, maybe he came here when he was in his 30s or so, and who knows maybe he did something noteable in Ireland and there is a photo of him attached to something.

  • I read that you have living Johnstons in your family.  I would suggest that if you have a living male Johnston that you have his Y-DNA tested with FTDNA.  I have managed an expanding family group of Johnstons for over 10 years now.  We are all genetically linked.  You can find more details on my recent post on this site:  Johnston, James of Broagh...
