I am looking for information on my gr-gr grandfather, George Craig[e] and also my gr-gr grandmother whose last name was also Craig. I think George Craig's family lived in Cornamagh, Athlone and Eliza's parents [William and Diana Cowan] lived in the town of Athlone. Other names used as middle names of their children born in Ontario, Canada were Wallace; Hillyard; Hilliard; Norman. Based on the birthing order, I think George Craig's mother might have been Margaret. It is possible that his father was also George Craig. They died in Ontario, Canada. George was born 10 Mar 1810. Eliza was born 21 Apr 1826. Her family emigrated to Canada between 1826-1830. George was in the 30th Regiment of the Foot Guards. I have his military records from the National Archives in the U.K. I understand that the in town family [probably Eliza's family] were felt makers and weavers. I think it is George Craig's family that were the farmers from Cornamagh. There is supposed to be Craigs buried in the church yard of St. Marys, Athlone. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You,
Vonnie

Hi Vonnie,
Thank you for your message. As the family were from Athlone it may be an idea to join and post this message on the St. Mary?s parish page. (Athlone is part of this civil parish) Hopefully once it is there, someone in the area may be able to help by visiting the graveyard or giving you some advice.
