John Arthur was born 1709 in County Antrim, Ireland to Thomas Barnabus Arthur.
He died on 28 Jan 1793 in Bedford Co. Virginia, USA
Is their any record of when he left Ireland for America and if so how he travelled?

Dear Larry
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Unfortunately, when it came to emigration from Ireland the authorities were not very concerned about keeping records of those leaving. You will find that it is only when your ancestor got to his adopted country that his details were taken (if at all). The US for example has records available at Ellis Island and Castle Garden websites.
However, it would be difficult to research the period you refer to for passenger/immigration lists. It seems that prior to 1820 for the US at least, you are dependent on written sources rather than online. I refer you to this detail on the familysearch.org site:

Of all of the surnames searched in this website, looking for at least one of my own, I came across yours, which is my married name.
My husband was Lugene Lea Frank Arthur, born in Denver, Colorado. His father was John Calbert Arthur, also born in Colorado, Frank F Arthur, his grandfather and Henry H Arthur his great grandfather.
We had no idea of the origin of the Arthur name, as we could not connect with the "old country". If there is any information that we have that you could use, please contact me. I have very little, because my husband is deceased and he was just starting his research.
My best to youl
