I am trying to research my wife's family.  She is the great grandaughter of a George Crawford Lilley, who was in Canada by around 1921 where he was married.  His Canadian marriage document gives his age as 21 as of May 9, 1921, and as the son of Samuel Lilley and Hannah Crawford of County Antrim, Ireland.  He was Presbyterian, according to the marriage certificate.

I have found a family of Samuel and Hannah Lilley in both the 1901 and 1911 census documents for Drumahiskey.  House #7 in the 1901 census, and house #3 in the 1911 census.  They had children Sarah (age 10 in 1901), Daniel (age 9 in 1901), Jane (age 6 in 1901), Mary (age 4 in 1901), and George (age 2 in 1901).  By 1911, they also had children Martha (age 9), Samuel (age 5) and John (age 1 month).  All are listed as Presbyterian in both census documents.

The George listed in the census is the right age for my wife's great grandfather.

George Crawford Lilley was in Canada by 1921.  It is not clear whether anyone else in the Lilley family came over as well.  The marriage license/certificate was witnessed by only his wife's family members. IIt also did not give an address other than County Antrim, Ireland for for Samuel and Hannah, so I suspect that the rest of the family may have either remained in Ireland, or emigrated elsewhere.

I am curious if anyone may have additional information on Samuel Lilley and Hannah Crawford or their families.

Thanks you for any assistance,

Mark Jackson,
Ontario Canada.

I located the civil marriage index record for the 1888 marriage of Samuel and Hannah. You can write to the General Register Office to get a copy of this record for around 4 euros. The record should show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom and where the bride and groom were living in 1888. I also located a death index record for a Samuel Lilley who died in 1918. The year of birth is consisternt with his age in the 1911 census. I could not locate a smiliar record for Hannah. Instructions for obtaining copies from the GRO are below the index records.

Go to this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx In the middle of the page there are links for birth, marriage or death certificates. Hit the link for the form you want. You will likely get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. (This is a program bug that the GRO has to correct). Hit cancel and the appropriate form should come up. Print the form and complete the requested information. Also provide the information from the index record--quarter/year of the event, registration district and the volume and page number where the event is recorded. Make sure you ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. ( A cert costs closer to 20 euros). You can also ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back to you.
