I am a direct descendant of Joseph Adair, Sr. b.1713 in County Antrim.  He immigrated to Pennsylvania, USA .  He later moved to Laurens, Co. SC.  While in PA he married Sarah Lafferty who was born in the US.

I would like to know the Parrish of Adair's birth.  Also would like to know if there were any Lafferty's in the parrish that may have immigrated to the US at the same time.

  • Hi

Thank you for your message. Do you have any further information regarding this individual? Do you know anything about his emigration that may point to his place of origin in County Antrim?

Please note - there is no central repository for records regarding Ireland. The reality of finding documentation pertaining to births/baptisms/marriages/deaths in Ireland prior to 1800 ? particularly in rural areas ? is that they simply may not exist. Some registers for urban areas pre-dating 1800 may exist ? though often these can be fragmented- as there was an increased need in cities or larger towns to document the population. Please also note that the Church of Ireland was the official church of the country and therefore the bulk of information that does survive for earlier periods is often from these registers.
