I am in search of information relating to William Burr Herron.  His son, Robert John Herron, is believed to have been born in Belfast, Antrim, on 06 OCT 1834. Robert John Herron was my 2x great grandfather.  I have no other facts and am hoping that someone will be able to provide additional information for me.

I thank you in advance for your help.

  • Hi,

Key to finding reords is knowing where to look for them. The Irish Genealogy toolkit is a great site that gives detailed breakdown on what records are where. http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/index.html This site also has quite a bit of similar items that further assist your effort.

Another tool that should be helpful is the Griffiths Valuation http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=nameSearch

another site that can help greatly is Irish Times http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/townlands/index.cfm?fuseaction=TownlandsInCivil&civilparishid=307&civilparish=Drummaul&citycounty=Antrim Much of data can be viewed free, showing you where to look , while more indepth data can be purchased as you choose.

    Hope this helps, Jeanette

  • Unfortunately I have been unable to learn anything about William Burr Herron.  His name appears as father on the death certificate for Robert John, and that is all that I have.

  • Robert Herron served in 23rd Michigan Infantry in American Civil War along with William J Herron, as well as William's brother-in-law, Eliakim Morse.

Seeking proof that Robert Herron is the same person as Robert John Herron.

Like Robert John Herron, William J. Herron was born in Ireland.

Also seeking proof that William J Herron is related to Robert John Herron, possibly his brother.

Was William Burr Herron the same person as William O'Harren who appears in 1850 US Census of Michigan?

  • I believe that Robert Herron and Robert John Herron are the same person. His name as listed in the roster of Civil War soldiers is Robert D Herron and I believe that to be in error. He has been accepted as one of my patriots in Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War and the documentation has been accepted by the National Society. In the U S Census records of 1870 (wife Ann) and 1880 (wife Josephine) his name is listed as Robert Herron. The death record names him Robert John Herron.

William O' Harren who was living in Livingston County, Michigan in 1850 was born in 1797 which would make him the right age to be the father of Robert John who was born in 1834. Robert John would have been about 16 in 1850 and does not seem to fit into the family of that William. The O'Harren family had neighbors who were from Ireland - McDonald and Hale - but I do not recognize either of those names.

I am unable to offer proof that William was father or brother to Robert John.

  • I have a date of birth for the William J Herron I am researching of about 1831-1834 and he died in 1899. Willaim J Herron married Deborah Morse who had a brother Eliakim Morse.
