William Moore and his son George Moore who were prostatant, flax growers in Creeslough, near Doe Castle in County Donegal.  They rented land from the owners of Doe Castle, but owned the home place which is still there.  George married Nancy McElhenny(1845) and they had Isabella, Annie, Rebecca, William and Margaret.  All but William and Annie immigrated to Philadelphia.  I have seen the family home and know some of the history. Annie married William Huey in Philadelphia, Isabella married two times, once to a Moore and Rebecca married John Gribbin and moved to South Carolina.

  • My great grandmother Hannah McEllaney (with various different spellings of the same sound), born about 1842 in Co. Donegal to Andrew McAlhanny and Bridget McGeehan, married John Scott of the Irish Constabulary in Co. Donegal in about 1858. Their first child Joseph was born in Co. Donegal, probably on 3/6/1860, and in 1861 they emigrated to New Zealand where 3 more children were born. Is there any link to your McElhenny family? Hannah's descendants still live in NZ.
