I’m interested in the origins of my ×3 great grandmother, Abby Flack. In 1803, she was living in the townland of High Kilmahamogue in the Ballintoy parish in Antrim with her husband Neil Glass and 3 children (Kitty, Nancy and Jane) and stepdaughter Betty Knox. According to a book on the Hutchinson bequest, Abigail Flack was the granddaughter of the Reverend Samuel Dunlop through his daughter Abigail who married a Flack and had two children, Ann and Abigail.
The Reverend Samuel Dunlop (c.1680-1738) was an ordained Presbyterian minister who served in Athlone (1708-1722), Ramoan (1723-1733) and Manulla in Mayo (1733-1738) and was thought to have died in Manulla. Samuel’s wife lived in the Coleraine area after his death at least until 1740.
Samuel had a son George Dunlop born in Athlone, Westmeath c.1715, who died at Armoy in 1778. A niece Ann McDugall is mentioned in George’s will, but Abigail isn’t named. By 1803, Abby, is Roman Catholic, so this may be the reason she has been omitted.
I would like to find out more about Samuel Dunlop’s wife and where and when their daughter Abigail was born. Also, when and where did Abigail Dunlop’s marriage to a Flack take place? Where do the Flack family come from?

Hello MaryB
Its always much more difficult to research ancestor details prior to mid nineteenth century as we are reliant on church records. I've attached a guide that will hopefully point you in the right direction, these were developed by our Genealogist.

Thank you for the guide Bernadette. I realise it is a long shot to get any furrther information about ancestors before the nineteenth century.
I have become fascinated with the Rev. Samuel Dunlop since I discovered his existence. My gg grandmother was Abigail Flack's daughter, Nancy Glass, from Kilmahamogue who married Edward Donnelly of the neighbouring parish of Ballinlea. Nancy and Edward's daughter, Anne (also known as Nancy) Donnelly married Hugh McKinley from Culraney near Cushendun and they emigrated to Australia.
They were such a staunch Catholic family that it's quite intriguing to realise there are Presbyterian ancestors.

Mary
