  • The townland where the McCartney family lived was Ballylesson (which is in the Ballyclug electoral district). You can see where it is using the maps on Griffiths Valuation.

Here?s details of a couple of probate files which appear to relate to that fmaily:

    Full Abstract :

McCartney Mary of Ballylesson county Antrim spinster died 4 September 1928 Administration (limited) Belfast 23 October to Elizabeth McCartney spinster. Effects ?37 17s. 7d.

    Full Abstract :

McCormick James of Ballylesson Glynn county Antrim farmer died 23 October 1925 Probate Belfast 8 May to James Craig farmer. Effects ?141 2s. 3d.

The probate files are not on-line and you would need to go to PRONI (or contact them) to get copies.

James McCartney appears to have married Martha Francey. The marriage was registered in Ballymena in 1860 Vol 2, page 77. His father was named William. No father is listed for Martha, suggesting she may have been illegitimate.
