Hi I have just found a possible great uncle Drowned.
Joseph Boston D/1882/57/1007/14/357 Death certificate.
Found on 18th Dec 1881 age 44 died from Drowning he fell in Aderecorn Basin
An inquest was held and information received from Coroner Bough of Belfast 11 march 1882 for the death certificate.
I have seen the two Belfast Times reports on 18th Nov 1881 and 19th Dec 1881.
On dieing Joseph Boston was an unhappy man who lived on Campbell street a widower and left three small orphans.
I would love to confirm who his wife was and who the children where. Is it possible to get the inquest would it say much?
Thanks for any ideas in advance.
Regards Greta

Greta,
The location that Joseph drowned was called the Abercorn basin. It still exists today.
Coroners records are held in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast. Here’s a link that tells you what the files contain. However as far as I can tell PRONI don’t have any coroners records for Belfast for 1881.
http://apps.proni.gov.uk/DCAL_PRONI_eCatNI_IE/ResultDetails.aspx
I checked to see if Joseph left a will but there’s none on the PRONI wills site.
Joseph Boston is not a very common name and so by searching the marriage site, I only found a couple of marriages involving people of that name around Belfast. I think your Joseph married Sarah Hodgin on 22.1.169 in Belfast. Their 3 children were Sarah 11.10.1869, Joseph 7.8.1875 & John 25.9.1877. Sarah senior died 22.1.1869 aged 42.
You can view the birth certs free on the Irishgenealogy site: https://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/
But for the marriage and death certs you’ll need to pay GRONI to see them. You can view the original certificates on-line on the GRONI website, using the “search registrations” option:
You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate.

Oh thanks heaps for the reply I will follow up on those leads. Thanks
I really like this site https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk it is a quick way for me to find out the information.
Sarah senior died 22.1.1869 aged 42. Do you mean Sarah Hodgin as this was the marraige date?
Does this site have the belfast births on it? https://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/
Thanks again for the reply.

Greta,
Sorry the date of Sarah's death should be 28.12.1878. My mistake. The Irish genealogy site does have the births on it (free), but it doesn't have the marriage or death, which is why you need to go to the NI Direct (GRONI) site for them.
