  • Though you have posted this under Co Antrim, most of the references appear to be to Co Derry. The 1831 census for Co Derry only has 2 George Eatons.

Ballyleighery Upper, parish of Magilligan (4 males, 1 female all Church of Ireland).

Another in Ardvarness, parish of Macosquin (4 males, 5 females, all Church of Ireland).

You might want to search the COI records for Magilligan (Tamlaghtard). They start in 1747, though there are lots of gaps. Sadly Macosquin?s records prior to 1878 were lost in the 1922 fire.

Here?s some Eatons in Ardvarness in 1901. However they are Presbyterian and so I am not certain it?s the same family:

Here?s the Ballyleighery family in 1901.

  • A bit late but wanted to ask, how far back does your Eaton's go? I have researched my Eaton line to the 15 century and find that those of Cheshire, Great Budworth Eaton's were also of Ireland. and as I followed them to Wales then Pennsylvania USA in late 1600's, and on to New York, then Michigan, where I see in 1860's the Eaton's of Limrick, Ireland settled for some time in Mecosta co MI. in the same area as my Eaton of Wales line, Just find it quite odd that the two would be in the same area and not be related.  Hope someone has answeres

  • Late post perhaps but I've been doing a bit of research ahead of my wedding and I can tell you what happened with Mary's (Marie) family. I happen to be one of her descendants. Her daughter Barbara (1849-1916) married Emmanuel G Lockard (1843-1922). Not terribly long after the American Civil War they settled on a farm outside of a small town called Passaic in Bates County, Missouri. Their son Alonzo (1878-1952) married Dorothea Greiss (1880-1951). In 1913 that union produced my grandmother Rachel. I grew up on that farm and it remains in my family. In fact there has been a Lockard reunion in my hometown every year for as long as I can remember and there are tons of cousins from across the country who attend. I have a picture of Joseph Benner in storage.
