So now my search leads me into a quandary.  I have run across a Hugh Devlin from Ireland that immigrated to the US, specifically Iowa.  This information states a Hugh Devlin was a Harness maker just like my Henry Devlin.  In a book about the history of Buchanan County, Iowa I found a reference that had the same death year as my Henry.  I cannot make the determination if he is directly related to my Henry.  The information is split because part says Hugh died in Scotland and the other is Cascade, Iowa.  This reference states a Patrick Devlin was the original harness shop owner before Henry and then Ultimate the newphew Hugh McClernon took over.  I have tired contacting several people on ancestry and have not found anything here yet,.  Anyone one have any more ideas.  Even the area where they were born are the same.  (Antrim)

    On the assumption they might be brothers I checked the Duneane baptisms for Hugh Devlins on www.rootsireland.ie/ and noted the parents' names then cross-matched for Henry with the same parnets and got a couple of matches. You didn't provide birth years so I don't know if either of the pairs are yours but there they are:

  • Hi ColCaff:

    Thank you for taking the time to look for me.  This is so confusing to me.  Sorry about the date of birth for my Henry.  I have him as June 5, 1836.  I don't have one for Hugh.  It just listed them both with the same death date. I know so little about my Henry.  It does appear that he had a brother named Arthur and a sister named Sarah (oh which she was born way sooner, but is noted in Henry's will and guardianship papers).  I do appreciate the time it probably took for you to look this up.  I will look in Ancestry again with those names and at some point maybe I can subscribe to the Ireland roots web to look as well.  If you happen to see anything more, I would appreciate it.  Again, thank you.  I guess this is why all of this research take time and a lot of investigating work.
