Visiting in May 2015 and would like to visit graves/old home of Great grand parents James and Isabella. I believed they had a farm in Dunfane where my Grandfather was born His name was William Cathcart Beattie the youngest of 10 children. Hugh, Mary,John, Elizabeth, Robert, Alice, Matilda, Isabel,Letitiaand William. Many left the area but wondered if there are any records any of others remaining inthe area. Apparently Robert lived in his parents home and married a Jane McAllister and had 7 children. This information was given to me from my late Auntie Margeret. One of Williams 6 children My father was the third born. All of this family now deceased. Would love any info. about Williams family includng farm location and church where they may be burried . Have got copy of Grandad's Birth certificate which has come from General Register Office in Belfast. Thanks Bev

Bev,
Here?s Robert Beattie in 1901, with William:

There was another Beattie family nearby. Presumably some connection:

And in 1911:

The revaluation records show David Beattie on plot 2, and James Beattie on plots 8 & 15 (ie two separate farms). Plot 8 was a farmhouse, outbuildings and 21 acres. Plot 15 was a 12 acre farm. James appears to have died around 1897.
The modern Ballygarvey Rd runs through the middle of Drumfane. Ballygarvey Rd runs off the Cushendall road just after you pass underneath the M2 motorway.
To find plots 8 & 15 today, you?ll need to go into the local studies section in Ballymena library. Ask for the Griffiths map that covers Drumfane, and then look for plot 8 which will be delineated on it. Photocopy the map and then use that to locate the property today.
Some probate abstracts (full files are held in PRONI, Belfast):
