John McIntyre on his military record states he was born in Magharagell, Lisburn, Antrim allegedly c1782. He enlisted in Co. Mayo in October 1807. He married prior to 1844 when his son was born in Burslem England. He served in India. By 1853 his widow Isabella remarried again in India to a soldier. He died and Isabella married a third time. Records show that her first marriage was to John. I would be interested to find out where they married. Can't find any record for the marriage in England.

You don’t say what denomination John was. Do you know?

Hello Elwyn
Thank you for responding to my query. I am sorry, I haven't a clue as to John denomination! The scant information I have from his military record doesn't say.

Noreen,
For a birth in the late 1700s you need to rely on church records. Magheragall Church of Ireland records start in 1776; the local Presbyterian church only has records from 1878 and for members of the RC faith it falls within the parish of Blaris. Their records only start in 1878.
There’s a copy of the Church of Ireland records in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast. A personal visit is generally required to view them. The COI records for the 1700s are not on-line anywhere as far as I am aware.

Thank you Elwyn, the information you have given me is very useful and I am much obliged to you. I will certainly give the PRONI a try,
