Hello,

Iam in the states and doing a lot of research into my family history. My great x3-5 grandparents lived on neighboring properties owned by Samuel Crommelin. I am having difficulties finding William and Rose Alexander and William Murphy and son Hugh Murphy (1833). Are there places I am not finding online to find census or records.

Thank you so much for any ideas or help.

Leah

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Our Co. Antrim expert is away but I did look up the 1862 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for the parish and it appers the Alexanders and William Murphy lived in Scotchomerbane townland.

You can get more info on the Griffiths and the properties at www.askaboutireland.ie

There were still Alexanders in Scotchomerbane in the 1911 census.

  • I found the following probate extracts on the PRONI site:

Alexander Agnes of Scotch Omerbane county Antrim spinster died 7 April 1948 Probate Belfast 16 June to Emily Hamilton spinster. Effects £302 5s.

Alexander James of Scotch Omerbane county Antrim farmer died 12 May 1943 Probate Belfast 3 September to Agnes Alexander spinster. Effects £652 5s. 4d.

Administration of the Estate of Mary Ann Alexander late of Omerbane, Co. Antrim, who died 12 April 1920, granted at Belfast 12 May 1920 to James Alexander, Farmer, the brother. Effects: £316 8s 6d.

Administration of the estate of James Alexander late of Omerbane County Antrim Retired Farmer who died 8 July 1900 granted at Belfast to Samuel Alexander Farmer.

The Will of William Alexander late of Omerbane County Antrim Farmer who died 12 January 1886 at same place was proved at Belfast by William Gregg and Thomas Gregg both of Clough said County Farmers the Executors.

The last will is on-line. The 1900 probate file is likely to have been lost in the 1922 fire at the 4 Courts in Dublin. The other probate files are not on-line but PRONI should hold paper copies of them.
