Has anyone done the DNA testing through Irelandxo's partnership with 23andMe?

I'm wondering if the test provides all the other information 23andMe typically provides, or if it only provides results related to the Irish DNA.

Thanks so much!

  • Hi,

    Thank you for your message.

The DNA test and results are going to be exactly the same as the one that 23&Me usually provide. It is the same test just provided through our website.

We are working with people in Ireland to build up a better DNA atlas of each parish and area. This is a project that we have just undertaken and we are now searching for people in Ireland who have at least 8 great grandparents from one local area in order to map the DNA of Ireland and its people. Our partner is 23andme.

This project will take time to develop and map. We will post the results on our site (without names etc) so that you can see the DNA makeup of particular areas in Ireland.

This will take some time (12-18 months). I would wait a while until we have mapped parts of Ireland and you can see the kind of data available.

Again thank you for your interest and feedback.

  • Hi thank you for your query.

Our project is only being started and until we have a database of information, you will need to wait to be able to cross reference the results with those on the database.

Please go to http://www.irelandxo.com/trace-your-irish-roots-dna for more iforamtion on the project.

    All the best,
