Hi.
I am looking for any information on my Irish families. The information I have is that John Durkin married Elizabeth Kelly, Feburary 1854 in the Dumcree Parish. (Catholic I think) They had two children born in Ireland. (1) Mary Ann (b) Porterdown, County Armagh, 1854 and (2) John (b) 1856. It appears they left these two children with unknown relativies when they travelled to Australia on the Glen Isla in 1857. They returned to Ireland 1862, then back to Australia along with their two children on the Buction castle.
It appears other people travelled with them to Australia on the Bucton Castle who I think may have been Durkin's, but it shows them as WIRKIN ??
Any information on John, his parents or his sibblings would be much appreciated. Along with information on Elizabeth Kelly as I have no information on her or her family.
Should any of my Australian information be of interest please advise as I am only to happy to share.
Thank you again for any assistance.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your message and your offer to share information. I hope that someone with information makes a connection with you.
In the meantime, have you tried looking for further church records in Drumcree that may offer some information? Perhaps you may find some new names listed as sponsors or witnesses to births/marriages. Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. For Drumcree/Portadown parish, follow this link:
As you can see from the above link there are copies available at Armagh Ancestry. Here is their email if you would like to contact them, however please note that a fee may apply:
You could check for record of the family in Griffith?s Valuation ( a land record dating from 1848-64)-if you can find them it may narrow down where they lived to a townland. Griffith?s is available online at: http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=nameSearch
