I am researching the family of Matthew Dunne of Lathbirget and hope someone out there may have some more information about him. I have plenty of information about his descendants which I am happy to share, and would like to find out more about him and his ancestors. Any help would be gratefully received!

His headstone inscription in Mullaghbane cemetery reads: Erected by Michael Dunne in memory of his father Matthew Dunne of Lathbirget who departed this life 21st January 1852, aged 60 years.

Mathew Dunn is listed in Lathbirget in the 1828 tithes:
http://www.irishgenealogyhub.com/armagh/tithe-applotments/forkill-paris…
There’s a possible death for Peter Dunn aged 46 registered in Newry on 14.4.1871. Your Peter & Ann don’t seem to have had any children born after 1871 which would tie in. You can view the original certificate on-line on the GRONI website, using the “search registrations” option:
You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate.
I presume this is his widow in 1901, so we know he died somewhere between 1870 and 1901. The 1871 death is the only adult Peter Dunn(e) death in the area in that timespan.

There are very few other early records that are likely to list this family. You may struggle to find much more about their lives in the early 1800s.
Griffiths Valuation for 1864 lists Peter Dunne farming on plot 23(j) in Latbirget with a Patrick Dunne farming beside him on 23 (i). That would suggest they were related. This looks to be Patrick’s death in 1878 aged 70:

So who was he? An uncle perhaps?
Mary Dunn, widow of Michael here:

Ann Dunn, farmer’s widow here:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…
The Valuation revision records for Latbirget (on the PRONI website) show both plots 23(i) & 23 (j) changing to Ann Dunn in 1881. That may indicate their husbands’ had just died but the Griffiths clerks dates were often out by a few years so it’s just indicative.

Elwyn, many thanks for your help.
- Mathew Dunn is listed in Lathbirget in the 1828 tithes: http://www.irishgenealogyhub.com/armagh/tithe-applotments/forkill-parish... Many thanks for this
- There’s a possible death for Peter Dunn aged 46 registered in Newry on 14.4.1871. Your Peter & Ann don’t seem to have had any children born after 1871 which would tie in. Many thanks for this - I didn't have his death date, which if correct gives me an approximate birth date.
- I presume this is his widow in 1901, so we know he died somewhere between 1870 and 1901. The 1871 death is the only adult Peter Dunn(e) death in the area in that timespan. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Armagh/Latberget/Latbir... Yes, this is Peter's widow, Ann née Kelly who died 22 Aug 1921.
- This looks to be Patrick’s death in 1878 aged 70: http://www.irishgenealogyhub.com/armagh/tithe-applotments/forkill-parish... Yes, Patrick died 19 Mar 1878. NB this is a link to the tithes and not his death.
- So who was he? An uncle perhaps? If he was an uncle, he might have been the brother of Peter's father, Matthew. Matthew was born abt 1792 and Patrick abt 1808 so that would have made Patrick 16 years younger than his brother, if indeed they are brothers.
- Griffiths Valuation for 1864 lists Peter Dunne farming on plot 23(j) in Latbirget with a Patrick Dunne farming beside him on 23 (i). That would suggest they were related. Patrick Dunn was married to Ann née McCann and Peter Dunn was married to Ann née Kelly so to help confuse matters, both Peter and Patrick's wives first names were Ann. According to a local researcher, two Dunne families were being reared at the same time, a pointer to the existence of two Dunne houses.
- The Valuation revision records for Latbirget (on the PRONI website) show both plots 23(i) & 23 (j) changing to Ann Dunn in 1881 I think that these might be two different Ann Dunns, one Ann née McCann, the widow of Patrick and the other, Ann née Kelly, the widow of Peter.
- Mary Dunn, widow of Michael here https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retur... This is Mary Dunn née Kelly, the daughter of Michael Kelly. I wonder if she could be related to Ann Kelly?
- Ann Dunn, farmer’s widow here https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retur... - This is Ann née McCann, widow of Patrick Dunn
Regards.

My Great Grandfather was PETER DUNN of Forkhill who married ANN KELLY in July 1857. I have a copy of their wedding entry in parish records (attached). There is a baptism for a PETER DUNN on October 28 1835 but the parents are Patrick and Mary (Clancy?).
Peter's sons JOHN b1859(my Grandad), Matthew b c1861, Richard b1867, Peter b1869 and Hugh b1870 all came to Liverpool and worked on the buses/ coaches. Another son Michael, according to my late father apparently stayed in Ireland to look after his mother and did not marry.
Have I just muddied the waters?
More to follow...............

A fragment of an 1821 census was found in, I would guess,2008. From that I have a number of widows - Widow Peter born 1751 with two children, Edward and Ann who are decribed as son and daughter but are too young so perhaps grandchildren or children to another Head of family tyhhat the widiw is living with.
Then there is widow James born about 1771 with two sons, Hugh and Thomas.
Finally, widow Richard born about 1758 with two children, Mary and Patrick.

I seem to have missed off the wedding of PETER DUNN to ANN KELLY as recorded in the parish registerat Forkhill. The square of asterisks are on the original.......looking at the dates, perhaps the record wan't added to the register at the correct time. . Sorry

I believe my great great grandfather, Peter Dunn, was the brother of your great great grandfather, Matthew. I think the John on the first generation of your tree is probably my Peter who stayed on in Lathbirget. All his sons emigrated to Liverpool and started working with their uncles in the horse and cart and omnibus business around Tunnel Lane and Edge Lane. Edge Hill was then the Railway Terminus and all goods transported between the docks and the railway terminus were 'carted'.
My connection is through my grandmother Winifred Dunn b. Liverpool 1894, my gt grandfather Matthew Dunn b. Lathbirget 1861, and gt gt grandfather Peter Dunn b. 1825 Lathbirget. I too have lots of information which I'd be happy to share including a handwritten history which Eithne Dunn (your Aunt?) sent to my father in the 80s - it seems we are indeed cousins!
