I can?t see a death for a Mary Jane Patterson in Armagh 1864 ? 1890. You should buy a copy of George?s death cert. That will give you his marital status at his death, and so you?ll then know whether Mary Jane died before or after him. It will also give you  his address at that time, which may be helpful, as may also the informant?s identity.

If Mary Jane was still alive in 1866, then the thing to do is to look at the Griffiths revaluation records for the address from the death certificate, to see if she take sover as tenant of that property. Follow those records through till she disappears. That will probably tell you when she died. (The revaluation records are on-line on the PRONI wesbsite).

You can order a photocopy from GRO Roscommon for ?4 per certificate. Put the place, year, volume & page number on the application form (anywhere). Don?t worry about leaving some boxes blank. You don?t need to fill them all in if you have the reference details. http://www.groireland.ie/ You have to post or fax the form to them but they will e-mail the copy certificate to you if you wish. Tick the relevant box on the form.

Death registration only started in 1864 so if Mary Jane died before that, you won?t get a death certificate for her. If she was Church of Ireland, then you might find her burial record, in the relevant parish records. Other denominations did not generally keep death/burial records.
