Hello  -  I would like to know if the family of McAneney or McAneany comes from Loughall.

In particular Daniel and his wife Catherine (Mackle ??) married, when they were both about 20, and immigrated soon after to South Africa in 1860. They then immigrated to New Zealand in 1864.

Daniel's death certificate indicates he came from Armagh and that his father was also named Daniel.

I think his parents may have been Daniel and Ann (McGarry???) McAneney, who also immigrated to NZ later on.

I know very little about them before they left Ireland. As far as I know they are all Catholic.

Thanks, Rose

The 1864 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing shows a Daniel McAneny in Gallrock townland in Tartaraghan civil parish. There were no McAneneys (or variants)in Loughall civil parish. I would mention that Tartaraghan borders Loughgall to the northeast at the top of Co. Armagh.

I also looked at the surname McGarry in Co. Armagh. Only eleven listed. Two were in Tartaraghan parish.Derrinraw and Maghery were the townlands.

Griffith McGarry Denis Derrinraw Tartaraghan Co. Armagh
    Griffith McGarry Ellen Maghery Tartaraghan

    Co. Armagh
