My Great x2 grandmother was Margaret Boyle. She was born in 1805 and died in April of 1890 at age of 85. She was buried in St Patricks in Cullyhanna.  She married Patrick Branigan  at Loughgilly Roman Catholic church on December 12 1831. The witnesses with Charles McShane and Matilda Lowe as recorded in the parish register.  They lived in Cullyhanna, lower Creggan parish. Decendenats fo the couple still live in Cullyhanna and Newry but have no further information on her family.

I am looking for information of her family name of her mother, father or  orher relatives. Based on the marriage record I presume they lived in Loughgilly.

thanks for any help with this

  • Loughgilly RC records only start in 1825 so I think you may struggle to find any details of earlier generations.

  • I am also related to this family.  I only know this because I have DNA matches with Branigan decendents.  There is an Ancestry family tree named Branigan-Vignati Family Tree at https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/112217068/person/10219…; This tree lists Margaret Boyle's father as James Boyle, born in 1775 in Armaugh.  I do not know if this info is accurate.  The owner of the tree is Vignati_Ruth at https://www.ancestry.com/account/profile/0116a1cc-0001-0000-0000-000000…; Hope this helps.

  • thanks for the message. The designation of James Boyle as Margaret's father is an error.
