Attempting to trace early 1700-1800's Kerr's in the area or any decendents.  Any assistance would be much appreciated.    Here is what I have found from public record searches.

Daniel Keer (b abt 1858, d 7 aug 1900)   Margaret Magin (b abt 1858, d 2 Feb 1921 Lurgan)
married January 9, 1876 - In Gilford.   Registration shows grooms father Daniel Keer and Brides fater Richard Magin.
A Eliza Magin was present and recorded without noting relation.

Daniel and Margaret had at least seven children
James Joseph B 29 Oct 1876 Bandridge, Down
                       D 15 Feb 1960 Indianapolis, Indiana, USA
Sarah  B 9 Jan 1881 Banbridge Down.   Was alive in 1921 when mother Margaret died. Single at the time.
Daniel Kerr (the third)  B 8 Apr 1886, Lurgan, Armagh.  Single in 1911
Catherine (Kathleen) B 3 Nov 1887, Lurgan, Armagh.  Single in 1911
Annie Keer B 24 Apr 1890.  Lurgan, Armagh
Edward Kerr B 27 Apr 1893 Lurgan, Armagh
Patrick Joeseph   B 4 Jul 1896  Lurgan, Armagh

The family lived:
  1876 Gilford
1886, 1893 - David or Davis street in Portadown
1896 through 1911 in 7 Castle Street Portadown Urban, Armagh
Listed on birth register for Patrick in 1896, and both 1901 and 1911 census.

James Kerr came to the USA in 1911 and his wife Charlotte (Milligan - of 7 Nevis Avenue Victoria, Down) and their three daughters (Marie Katherine, Anna Josephine, and Eileen Gertrude) came in 1912.  There are many, many decendents with many surnames origniating from (Cain, Welsh, Buchanan, Curran, Jordan).  I am most interested in the other children and parents of Daniel Kerr.

  • In the 1911 census, Margaret said she had 6 children all of whom were still alive at that time. It looks as thought there was one more anyway.

The only marriage I can see that might relate to your family is for a Daniel Kerr who married Mary Quinn in Coalisland in 1921. He was a widower, a soldier, and his father was Daniel a labourer. Sarah Ann Kerr was a witness:

The other names are too common to be able to trace them without additional information.

  • My fourth cousin Frances Kerr lives in Portadown. Her father was Thomas David William Kerr, but I don't have anyone further back on his line since he married into the family line. She doesn't use email much but she might respond to an inquiry if I ask her on your behalf. I can't really ask her to sign up for this website.

If you would like to post your direct email address here, perhaps separating the two halves of the address so spam-bots don't pick it up, I would send her your inquiry, name and your email and ask if she would respond directly to you.

  • This may of may not help you, I have come acoss these names a lot myself. I have a lot of  Kerrs in my own family from the same location, and still do. I did my DNA as well as my aunt with diffrent companies and she and I both get a lot matchs to peaple who have trees with the same names you have posted above.  To be honest, I have not really dug deep into it  because I am working on brick walls that are a lot closer to my heart ( my granny also in Lurgan)

If you are in Ancesty,  or can make a free acount you can find my tree, its public. Type in the name Kerr in the search you will see who I have litsed already.   Name of tree is * Ardis & McLaughlin maternal  *

If you do find any leads please let me know if this was helpful, this is the first time I am using my tree as a lead.
