Hi,

I have just joined and hopeful of finding some information about my Ancestors. My Lundy family came to Scotland about 1805. The spelling in Scotland is Lundie.

I know from legal documents that they came from Armagh and they were weavers and farmers. There names were Thomas, Robert, James, Hugh, Janet and John - siblings. Their parents, verified from 3 death certificates, were John Lundie and Agnes Greer ( another name prominent in the Loughgilly area). They were born between 1780 and 1804.

I have found Lundays on the 1796 list in Carrickbrack and have also a monumental inscription from the Cornagrally, Loughgilly parish for Lundys with the same christian names.

Any information anyone can give me would by hugely appreciated.

Thank you!

  • I have some  information about this Lundie family

My grandmother's great-great grandmother was Janet Lundie, who was born in 1789 at Loughgilly, County Armagh, Ireland. The  family settled in Ayrshire. Janet married John Porter, a prosperous farmer of Sorn; Ayrshire.. Her father was John Lundie, was born at Loughgilly, who is listed as a Flax Grower in the 1796 Flax Growers list of County Armagh, and her mother was Agnes Greer, born 1759.John Lundie did not prosper in Scotland and other members of his family caused some scandal

    Best Wishes....

  • Hi Stuart,

I am a direct descendent of Robert Lundie, brother of Janet Lundie Porter.

Do you have anything that ties them to the Loughgilly area? I have the flax list info and some freeholder info. Also a grave inscription for Lundies with same christian names. But I don’t have any birth, marriage or death info in Armagh.

I have loads of documentation after they came to Scotland about 1805 and am happy to share.

I was born in Ayrshire and my maiden name was Lundie.

    Best wishes

    Norma
