Hi My greatgrandfather Charles Laverty was baptished(1863) and married Roseann McCann(1884) in St James RC Church, His baptism was conducted by Father Daniel O'Toole, After the marriage they moved to Carfin, Scotland. Charles had lived in Scotland before with his father James, who worked in the coal mines and who lost his life in the Blantyre explotion of 1879.James was baptised 1 Dec 1833 and married Sara Ann Quinn 10 Feb 1861 again it was father O'toole that conducted the service. James's father also James married Alice Ann Mageon, cant find when though, I have found some  Baptism Records for some of their children but not all of them. Can anyone help, Margaret

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and sorry for the delayed response.

I checked Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie  I located the 1833 baptismal record for James Laverty father James in the Ballymore/Mullaghbrack RC church records. There are also four other Laverty baptismal records  from 1828-1838 with a father named James. However, Roots requires that you have a first name before you can browse the indexes to see what parish the record was in.

Roots is a pay site and they now require that you purchase a subscription before you can view transcriptions of church records.

  • Thank you very much Rodger, I have the four birth certificates from roots Ireland, James (1833) Teressa(1836) Alice(1839) and Charles(1850). I know of 2 more children John +-1831 and Patrick+-1847, For the last 2 didn't find any Baptism records and I suspect between Alice and Charles there are more children, I think one named William but not really sure. From roots ireland I aso have the Marriage records for James, Teresa and Alice, who also married in Ballymore/MullaghbrackRC, so I take it the Laverty's always lived there when the children were born. Do you think there could be years missing out of the Parish Records.

    Thanks Margaret

  • Margaret:

I assume that there are gaps in the records. You may want to e-mail the church to see if they can confirm. http://www.armagharchdiocese.org/parishes/parish-details/?page=ddb_pari…

    Also, found this background.
