My grandfather was born in Terulit Pass, Newry in 1865 and emmigrated to either Canada or USA in the late 1890's. He was a Presbyterian and I am looking for any information. He became a US citizen in 1904. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Brian Beattie

Hi Brian,
www.rootsireland.ie/ has 8 Beattie birth/baptism records in Armagh in 1865
If you have a first name it would narrow it down.
Once you have 1 or more records to view you can click on the magnifying glass icon at the end of each to allow you to search the parishes one by one until you find his.
You will need to purchase credit in order to view the record(s) but it will have the parents' names and the parish. Presbyterean parishes are included.

Brian,
I don?t know of any location near Newry named Terulit Pass. There is a Jerretspass and a Poyntzpass though. How sure are you of the spelling?

It was on his obituary and funeral service card. I also was incorrect; it should have been Tersulit or Terslit.
Thank you

His first name was Henry. Middle intial T.
I never expected two replies within 12 hours of signing up. Thank you.

I can?t find a Tersulit or Terslit either. Nor can I see anything like that. I suspect it's a mistranscription or minsunderstanding.
Familysearch has a record of a Henry Thompson Beatty, whose birth was registered in Newry in 1865 Volume 11, page 761. That looks fairly promising. (I can?t see it listed on rootsireland, so you may need to order a copy from GRO Roscommon instead).
You can order a photocopy from GRO Roscommon for ?4 per certificate. Put the place, year, quarter (where there is one), volume & page number on the application form (anywhere). http://www.groireland.ie/ You have to post or fax the form to them but they will e-mail the copy certificate to you if you wish. Tick the relevant box on the form.
With the birth certificate, you will get the place of birth (normally a townland) and with that it should be possible to search further for the family. The parents names should also help us find their marriage. Let me know how you get on.

Hi Brian,
There is a baptism of Henry Beatty born 1865 in Armagh on www.rootsireland.ie/
It will have his father's name and the parish.
It is possible to check the parish by clicking the magnifying glass at the right of the record. There is only 1 choice for Newry - Newry Methodist and this wasn't the parish. There was an 1864 birth also which wasn't Newry either.

Brian,
There are 2 Henry Beatty births in 1865 on the Irish civil indexes. One is for Henry James Beatty and the other Henry Thompson Beatty. I can only see Henry James Beatty on rootsireland. No sign of Henry Thompson Beatty/Beattie. Take care therefore to ensure you get the correct record. (That?s why I think you may need to go to Roscommon to ensure you have the correct one). Caveat emptor!
