According to the family ancestry that was written in the 1970s, The Moore family started "in County Armagh, Ireland, near the town of Newery(sp?).  A town on the county line separating counties Armagh and Down.  The dividing line being a small river flowing into the Irish Sea.

In about the year 1820 Thomas Moore married Margaret Morgan."

The children of Thomas and Margaret were:  Alice, Owen, Michael, Stephen, Joseph, Thomas, Margaret and Kate.

Owen came to the USA in either 1846 or 1847.  Parents Thomas and Margaret Moore came in about 1850 and also settled in LaSalle County, Illinois.  They are buried in Lostland Cemetery in Eagle Township, LaSalle County, Illinois.

The Moores remained Roman Catholic.

  • I am looking for a Thomas Moore that came to Fremantle, Western Australia from Armagh in 1860.  He was born about 1829 and married Elizabeth.  They came to Fremantle with their daughter Lucinda, born about 1844, on the Gloucester.  Thomas was knocked overboard and drown on the way.  I woder if he is related to this family.  It would be strange that he came to Australia when the rest of the family went to Canada.
