Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Have you tried looking for Patrick?s birth cert in Tynan parish for information on his parents? Also, sometimes marriage records list the couple?s father?s names so it may also be an idea to look for this.
Do you know Patrick?s religious denomination? Most Catholic records are still held locally so it may be an idea to write to the parish priest for possible assistance. One website which you may find helpful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Tynan parish follow this link:
For Church of Ireland records check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/.
You could also do a search for any records pertaining to the family at Family Search which has a huge database of genealogical records:
Also, www.rootsireland.ie has a huge collection of Church records-however please note that you have to pay to use this website.
Alternatively, you could contact Armagh Ancestry for assistance- a fee may apply. Here are their contact details:
40 English Street,
Armagh,
BT61 7BA,
Northern Ireland.
+44 28 3752 1800 Email: researcher@armagh.gov.uk
I hope this is helpful.
Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,

I am interested in your Mary Hughes who married a McGuigan. Their children's names run in my family: Peter, Alice, and Thomas. I was wondering what year Mary married and whether or not she emigrated. My gggrandfather James Hughes was probably born c1810 or so. I think he probably married in England just before civil records were required. He settled in Stockport and raised his family there. If you have a chance to answer my questions, I would appreciate it. janfortado"at"comcast.net
