Hi, my name is Mick Nolan and as a boy was told that our family originated in Carlow
I am trying to find out whether my second great grandfather, Edward Nolan who was born in 1838, (I know this because he died aged 40 in June 1878 in Manchester) is the same Edward Nolan who was born on 6th June 1838, Tullow, Carlow to Michael Nolan and Kitty Kehoe.
As an adult Edward lived in Salford, Manchester,
Edward had two children with Mary Elizabeth Nolan (formally Rowland) before he died
Arthur Edward Nolan born November 1878 in Salford
Jane E Nolan born 1875/6
If anyone can assist or suggest a way I can verify this I would be most grateful
Thank you
Mick Nolan

Have you found a marriage cert for your Edward Nolan ?
A civil marriage cert should show father's name and occupation, and might help confirm, or rule out that baptism you mentioned...
Have you located Edward on English census returns ?
These often just stae Ireland, but sometimes a county or even town nameDont rely too much on ages reported at death, as these are often inaccurate

Thanks for your ideas.
I have been searching for the marriage certificate but unfortunately I have been unable to find one for Edward. I will try the census & other record search again and post up later if I have found any leads.

Mick, also forgot to say try contacting Roger Nowlan who is very knowledgeable on all Nolan families NolanFamilies.org
and he may be able to help you too. I am born a Nolan myself and would be interested in your research as my oldest brother was called Edward and my Grandfather was Edward and I was always led to believe they came from Tullow so good luck and I look forward to what you find...............
