Louis (or Lewis) Burns 1804-1868, son of Patrick Burns of Clonmore RC parish, Co. Wicklow, emigrated to Canada in the 1830s. Looking for Louis's family--ancestors as well as current relatives. Note: I know that the religous parish is definitely Clonmore but I'm not certain that Crecrin civil parish is the correct one.

Hi,
Thanks for your message.
Have you tried looking in Church records for information on Louis's family? Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which may help you is the irishtimes website where they give you an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Clonmore parish follow this link:
For Church of Ireland records check:
http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42
http://www.nationalarchives.ie
Also, Catholic and Church of Ireland Records are currently being uploaded to www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html free of charge. However, this is an ongoing project so not all records are available yet.
You could also do a search for Loius's father/mother for the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:
The Tihe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and the Griffith's Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
The most recent records available are the 1901 and 1911 census records which can be searched here: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
With regards to which civil parish is the correct one: Clonmore RC parish incorporates a number of civil ones. Do you have the name of a townland/village or town that the family lived in, as this would make it easier to establish which civil parish they were part of?
Some other websites which may help you are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
The Library & Archives of Canada - http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/index-e.html
In order to find any current relatives in the area, it may be an idea to place this information in a local forum in the hope that someone in the area is a relative or at least knows of the family.
One possible place you could do this is the online newspaper Wicklow People found at:
http://www.independent.ie/regionals/wicklowpeople/localnotes/
Also Wicklow News found at http://www.wicklownews.net/Home/About
Alternatively, you could contact the Wicklow Family History Centre for help, however a fee may apply. Here are their contact details:
Wicklow Family History Centre,
County Archives,
Wicklow County COuncil,
Wicklow Town.
Phone: (0404 20126 email: wfh@eircom.net
I hope that this all helps. Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
