Looking for any information re gr. grandfather, Patrick Dunn. Understand he left Co. Carlow in 1850 (age 25) headed for America. Believe he traveled alone. Not sure what port he landed at in US but got himself to Missouri. He probably joined a wagon train and traveled to Calif. where he searched for gold/silver. Don't know if he found any gold/silver, but went back east and bought some property in Lockport Twp., Will Co., Illinois. Over time, he bought more adjoining property, for a total of 160 acres. He served as a private in Civil War (1862-1865). After War, he went back to Ireland and returned with Johanna Duggan, Co. Tipperary, married, had 2 children.& farmed the land. This is all of the information I have and believe to be correct. I would love to know about Patrick's life/family in Ireland prior to emigrating. Please contact me with any information you have. Would be happy to share what I have. Thank you. Barb Nolan blnolan3@comcast.net

Dear Barbara:
Many thanks for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board. We have several Carlow volunteers who may be able to assist you. You might also consider creating an Ancestor Profile for Patrick Dunn on the XO Chronicles feature (located at the top of this page). The Ancestor Profiles are widely read and often there are others who are researching the same families as yourself. It can lead to great collaboration and sharing of new information. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Kind regards,
Jane
