Hi All

Looking for some assistance in finding further information on Patrick Doyle 1855 & Catherine Doyle 1866, children of Andrew Doyle and Anne Corrigan. Patrick migrated to NZ in 1877 and Catherine soon followed. New Zealand records indicate thier mothers name to be Anne, however online records indicate it to be Honor. (maybe one was a middle name?) I believ Andrew & Honor had 7 maybe 8 children, all born Newtown, St Mullins, Carlow.

Patrick 1850, James 1851, Mary 1853, Patrick 1855, Catherine 1856, Anastatia 1858, Margaret 1860 & Edward 1863.

Previous research by cousins established letter contact(pre internet) with other decendants of Andrew and Honor in the late 1980's early 1990's living in St Mullins, Borris, and Kilkenny. These people included Margaret Doyle (daughter of Edward) married to Michael Coleman, George Dalton(grandson of Mary Doyle) living in St Mullins married to Betty Walsh, and Eamon Doyle(grandson of Edward) farming at Inistioge Kilkenny -married to Anne Drea?. Other decendats of Andrew and Honor believed to be still living in the area include, Michael Doyle married to Betty O'neil living in Newton Borris. Margaret(Peggy) Doyle married to John Malone living Kyle Ballymurphy Borris. Breda Doyle married to James Lennon living Ballytiglea Borris. Of the above Margaret Doyle Coleman died in 1986 & I think George Dalton may have passed away in 2004.

These letters indicated that The St Mullins based family knew of Andrew & Honor with 4 children, Mary, Catherine, Margaret & Edward. They knew Catherine had gone to New Zealand.

The years of births above have been gained from Roots Ireland so they are transcriptions from original records. Honor's surname has been splet differently almost every time in these transcriptions. Variations of Corrigan - Colgan x 2, Conor x 1, Corrigan x 3, Corigan x 1 & Coligan x 1.

Conor is the odd one out as being mistranscribed, so that is Patrick 1855. However that is my Great Grandfather who migrated to NZ 1877. In NZ we have always been told Catherine & Patrick were brother and sister. Patrick has Andrew Doyle & Anne Carrigan farmers Co. Carlow listed on his marriage record as his parents.

So after all that what I am trying to establish is Anne Carrigan and Honor Corrigan the same person? Any reference to Patrick Doyle 1850, James 1851 and Anastatia 1858 and what may have happened to them?

Does anyone have any possible leads on the possible living decendants mentioned.

Any comment, advice or feedback welcomed.

Cheers - Sean

  • Sean:

A couple general comments. The National Library of Ireland plans to put all RC parish registers online later this summer. I think at that time you will have access to the source records and will be in a better position to sort out your family.

Second, here is the link to the online Irish phonebook http://www.eircomphonebook.ie/

Only a small percentage of phones are listed but possibly you can find one of your families. Make sure you use the Residential Tab.

  • Hi Sean,

    Greetings from St. Mullins!

I too am descended from Andrew Doyle and Honor (probably known as Nora) Corrigan. Their daughter Mary b. 1853 was my great granmother. My mother Katty (Catherine) was a sister of George Dalton, both now sadly deceased.  so we're about fourh cousins! I will be able to answer some of your questions in the coming weeks.

At the moment, I'm recovering from surgery - severed shoulder tendons and am unable to drive. There are also other cousins living in St. Mullins and Betty O'Neill Doyle still lives in the original homestead in Newtown, St. Mullins, her husband Michael is now deceased. Will be in touch.

    Regards,

  • Hi Bridie,

Wow 2 in one day. You will have seen Eamonn & Ann have also contacted me. I think you should be able to email me from this site as that is how Eamonn & Ann contacted me today without making email addresses public. I looked at your profile but it did not appear to be an option. Yes would love to share our histories.

I emailed Eamonn & Ann today after they made contact. To cut a long story short, I am not that far away. Been living in Scotland for 13 years. Intend making a trip over in the summer.

Will be great to hear what info you have. Hope the recovery goes well.

    Cheers - Sean
