Quandary: My Michael Conner Louisiana marriage record of 1798 in St.Martinville, Louisiana states he was born 1763 in Castletown, Tinryland Parish, County Carlow to William Conner & Rose Byrne. That would mean PARENTS married approximately 1740, PARENTS born 1720. When we conducted Y-DNA tests on male Conners, there were no matches to Other Conner males. The surname that showed the most matches were Devers, Devins, Devine, Rooney. My questions are, how did a Conner marry a Byrne in County Carlow?  If so, how did he get to County Carlow? Did one of my ancestors change his surname when he came to America? If he was in trouble in Carlow (Irish/British battles) and trying to ensure British in Florida would not find him?  Are there Conner descendants still in County Carlow? Are Devers, Devine, Rooney found in Tinryland Parish?                Appreciate any assistance. Thank you!

We have a parish liaison in Tinryland parish so I will send an e-mail to alert him to your message.

  • Can you post a full list of surnames from the Y-DNA results. I am a decendant of Michael Conner. I have been searching through the online church records for any variants of William Conner & Rose Byrne.

  • Parents should be born around 1740. The matches to Devers, Devins, Devine, Rooney probably means that we may follow the ancestral line of ( the 117th Monarch of Ireland ) Cairbre-Lifeachar's first son Eochaidh Dubhlen, his son  Colla-da-Chrioch, Meaning we could be from the O'Connors of Orgiall or from another branch by way of Cairbre-Lifeachar's third son Fiacha Srabhteine who begot the O'Connor's Kings of Connaught. I am still researching.

  • Hello,

I wondered if any information has surfaced about Michael Conner and or his parents?

  • Hello,

I am also wondering about updated information on Michael Conner or the history of the O'Connors in County Carlow in general (clann/sept info, etc).  Is there a point of contact for records for Tinryland for the mid 1700s?

Eric (your name sounds familiar) I believe we shared common family members in Octave and Lillie Conner from Sweet Lake, LA.  Have you researched any more about the ancestral lines from your September 2016 post?

    I appreciate your assistance

  • I am also researching Michael Conner.  My name is Beatrice Conner.  My father was Caffery Conner Jr and I am a direct descendant of Michael Conner. I too would be interested in any information found.
