My great grandmother Elizabeth Watchorn was born 1823 in Carlow daughter of Mary Halpenny and Robert Thomas Watchorn.
Mary Halpenny was the daughter of William Halpenny and Margaret Esther Giltrap Aghold Wicklow
The Halpenny and Watchorns immirated to Canada to the Boyd's methodist settlement Lanark Ontario. Mary Halepenny was born 1802 Wicklow. The families immigrated about 1823 to Canada.
My great grandmother Elizabeth Watchorn married Isaac James Mitchell Ontario about 1842 when Isaac arrived in Ontario Canada from County Armagh. They lived in Montague Ontario for a short while and then followed the Mitchell family to Maryborough, Wellington, Ontario.
Also I will be visiting Ireland in April 2018 searching for my maternatl grandparents William Armstrong born 1823 in County Antrim and Mary Earle born 1838 Dublin I think they either met on the passenger ship or in Ontario Canada and married but I can't find a marriage record. They first appear in Listowel Perth Ontario about 1858 when their first daughter Mary Jane was born. I can track them from there.

Dear Shirley
My apologies for the very late response. Have you contacted the Methodist Historical Society of Ireland as they have a large collection of baptism and marriage registers:

Hi Shirley,
I am a new volunteer so just replying now. I can connect your Watchorn and Giltrap to Carlow but not your Halpenny. Might I suggest you connect a Mr. Turtle Bunbury (on facebook) who may be able to help you. He is expert on Rathvilly and mainly his own house (Lisnavagh) and people associated with that house.................Graiguegirl

I also am interested in any information you might have of the Halpenny family that migrated from the Carlow area in the 1820,s.

Hello again Shirley, have managed to locate 2 families of Halpenny/Halfpenny and this is what I found:
HALFPENNY/HALPENNY Tullowcrene 1820's
HALFPENNY/HALPENNY Coolkenno, Co Wicklow. Tullow, Co Carlow. c1750 to 1835
This page ................. https://www.townlands.ie/carlow/tullowcreen/ ............will tell you all about Tullowcrene but I can tell you that locally the general area is known as Milford.
In 1825 I find a Hester Halfpenny living in Aghowle, Coolkenno and paying tithes (taxes) and also a David Halfpenny................. http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/reels/tab//004587395/00… you can view them on that page.
Here is another interesting page for you .............https://www.houseofnames.com/halfpenny-family-crest...............
This may be of interest to you also...........this gentleman is researching his family tree and it includes all 3 of the surnames you are looking for..............http://www.yclc.ca/indexz.html................
So I wish you good look...........by the way the name Halfpenny somehow became Halpin around 1800 and the Architect George Halpin who designed many, lighthouses and bridges in Ireland was one of those families who changed name.
Well, that is it from me in Carlow...........so goodnight and good luck

Hi Shirley,
I have just found your post and see that it is a few years old. I don't know if you are still checking it but I would love to connect as I am the GGGG grandaughter of your GGG Grandfather Williams cousin Joseph. I have been researching the 3 lines of Halpenny that came to Canada for years and have many pages of information to share.
Looking forward to hearing back,
Debbie
