Hello, a chairde,

I'm looking to find information for the following person: Marie Heery, b 1827 ( possibly Ballieborough) Parent were William Heery and Ann Boltie. She had a brother named James who immigrated in 1847. He was married to a Catherine McGovern and had two children in Ireland William b.1836 and John b. 1839. William Sr. and son James were shoe makers by trade. I have been told that there was a that there was a sister to Marie who stayed in Co. Caven by the name of Theresa who married a man by the last name of Carroll. Marie immigrated sometime before 1850. She spent seven years in New York as a servent before moving out to Iowa to be married to James Cavenaugh.

I will be visiting Ireland in Sept of this year to find relatives and records. Any help would be wonderful.

Le meas,

  • Hi  Robert, my name is Carmel O'Callaghan & we are just setting up our local group to assist with queries like yours in Bailieborough.  I am wondering did you get to call to Bailieborough last September.  There are still Heerys in the locality & if you still wish to make contact with them, please let me know.  Best Wishes Carmel

  • Carmel, a Chara,

Yes, I did find my  Heery cousins while I was in Co. Cavan this fall, and the old cottage where my 2X  Great Grandmather lived was still on the farm also. I can't wait to get back to Ireland again here soon.

Thank you for checking and contacting me.

  • Hello Robert,

Forgive me if I've already asked you this via email.  I'm not sure I have, so I'll continue here.

In your visit to Co. Cavan last fall did you ever come across a Catherine Heery (born c. 1847) who married Anthony Brady (approx. 1868) and thereafter lived in Relaghmore.  According to the Ireland Civil Registrations of Deaths Index, her death was registered in the 3rd quarter of 1900 at age 53 in Bailieborough.

Anthony shows up in Irish Census of 1901 and 1911.  His last will and testament is dated March 1911 in Relaghmore, Parish of Tierworker.  He died in April of 1911.

They had 10 children, only one of whom, Anthony Jr., stayed in Relaghmore; the rest of them went to America.

I believe Anthony Jr. lost the family farm due to unpaid taxes later in 1911 and then married Ellie Gaffney who had a farm in Relaghbeg.  He may have died 12 Sept 1946.

It would be great to know if any of this rings a bell with you (or anyone reading this)!

    With thanks, from

    Tom Kearney
