Unfortunately, Catholic records for Ballintemple parish do not start until 1862 which means it may be difficult to find any church records relating to Matthew and his immediate family:

However, in the19th century new Catholic parishes were created so starting dates can sometimes be misleading. Many parishes changed their geographical spread so you may find earlier records relating to your family in the records of adjoining parishes so it may be worth your while looking:

I did a search for Hourigan in Griffith?s Valuation. This is a property valuation survey carried out 1848-64. There was one Hourigan recorded in Ballintemple in 1857-Thomas:

My gosh thank you for all the information! My Irish relatives were a mixed bag of religion, the majority Catholic but not all. Matthew, family bible record stated, was married in Canada and both Matthew and his wife converted when they married. Timeline etc.. oldest daughter birth, support that he was married in Canada) I believe he may not have been Catholic back in his homeland if this helps. Thanks so much for the information! Kathy
