Hi, my great grandfather Charles Cowan left Ireland about 1885 and settled on Staten Island in N.Y.C. He was from the Townland of Legaginny; had sisters, Jennie, Elizabeth, Margaret, Fanny, Isabella, and Hannah. Isabella who was born in 1865 was the only child not to come to the U.S. I would be absolutely over the moon to learn that I have relatives in Ireland. Charles' mother was Fanny Weir who was from the Townland of Lackan Lower and her father was Thomas Weir. I do not know her mother's name. I am also interested in learning anything about the family, County Cavan in the 1800's and earlier. Thank you so much. Here's hoping for a connection someday, Fern Wilcox in Minnesota, USA

My GG-Grandfather Peter Corr bought the whole townland of Legaginney in 1873 and at that time there were Cowans living there on the road that led up to Legaginney House which was built by him. They were his tenants and before that the tenants of Henry Grafton, I have a copy of my GG-Grandfathers tenancy agreement and the Cowans are listed, unfortunately I am currently in rented accommmodation for the next 4 months and all my family info is packed away. Email me direct and when I get all my info out I can send you a copy. lornadolinska@aol.com
