My Gr. Gr Grandfather, Thomas Clark, on my mother's side, was born in Cavan in 1816 and emigrated to the US in 1940. He married a Grace Ann Downfield, from Ireland, in Harford County, Maryland.

Unfortunately, I don't have any town specific information on him.

  • Hi Jim

I haven't been able to find a baptism for Thomas in Cavan for the period mentioned above. There are 2 Clark entries on the Griffith's Valuation, assuming the entire family didn't emigrate:

Do you think you have exhaused all reources your side, including obituaries and ordeath/certs? I take it his marriage cert only mentioned 'Ireland' or 'Cavan'?

  • Clare,

I received an email from the Cavan genealogy center. They uncovered an entry from the 1821 census for a Thomas Clark, aged 5, in the Crosserlough parish. This fits my 1816 date of birth that I found on his tombstone. How much confidence can I put in this? Can I get this record to see who the family members were? Could I trace this family forward?

    Thanks,
