Hello! I think I've found my great-great grandfather, Robert Phillips and his parents Bernard and Margaret Phillips in Ballymachugh. This is very exciting for me. My next quest is to find his wife, my great-great grandmother Ellen Quinlan Phillips. Her parents were Francis, born 1791, and Mary, born 1796. Both Robert and Ellen died young (40 and 32) but their son, Patrick and his wife Hannah had my grandfather Vincent. Any information on Bernard and Margaret Phillips would be thrilling!

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in getting back to you!

I couldn't see a baptism for an Ellen Quinlan in Cavan or indeed in Ireland. She may have been born in a parish that predates records or the records may have been damaged or destroyed or lost. I checked for siblings of Ellen but couldn't find any baptisms for children baptised of these listed parents. Neither could I locate a marriage record for the couple.

Records for the Cof I parish of Ballymachuagh begin in 1816 for baptisms and 1845 for marriages and 1879 for deaths so this could account for the difficulty in locating information.

Do you think there are any other sources your end that might shed some further light on things?

    Best wishes
