Irelandxo,

I've been managing my family ancestry and (w/ the generous help of a distant cousin) i've been able to locate my ancestors who 'hail' from (in & about) County Cavan (Townland of Kilmore... Parish of Castlerahan). The census I have shows my 4th Great-Grandfather whose surname was 'Connaway' (Andrew Connaway / Birth: abt 1750)... His children's and grandchildren's surnames (Which includes my 3rd Great-Grandfather Charles / Birth: abt 1795) are all 'Conway'. I also have a letter (that was sent to my cousin) which specifies my 2nd Great-Grandfathers baptismal record (Michael Conway. Baptism: 14th Sept 1836 with parents named Charles Conway and Catherine Galligan @ Catholic Church in parish of Castlerahan). The letter also indicates that the family home address is recorded in the Townland of Cornahilt (Cornakill)... although, the Conway household are not recorded at Cornahilt in the 1821 Census returns, but at the Townland of Kilmore in Casterahan parish. Charles Conway and family are recorded in household number 17. My questions are; 1. Are there any records that I can access that might provide more information on my 4th Great-Grandfather (Andrew Connaway)... I.E Name of 4th Great-Grandmother. 2. Are there any grave markers with that would indicate that my ancestors are buried in & around County Cavan (I do have the names of several children of my 3rd Great-Grandfather Conway who were all born between 1818 and 1838). As I plan my long (and 1st) awaited Ireland visit (I retired two years ago), I am hoping to not only see the beautiful tourist sites of the island... but, I am also hoping to visit the specific areas that my ancestors lived and worked. Needless to say, my Ancestry search will make this adventure a 'That Much More Interesting'.

You may want to take a short subscription to rootsireland or let me know any specific records you'd like the details of and post again.

  • Col,

Thank you... I so much appreciate the time and the effort you have taken to provide me with this information. I will certainly begin to work on the information (that you) provided along with your recommendation to take a subscription to rootsireland.

You folks are incredibly generous to want to volunteer your time to assist the (insurmountable) amount of families that might be interested in finding their ancestry roots... I will gladly donate when possible

    Thank once again,

    Sean K Conway

  • I am researching my family and I read this discussion.  My Great Grandfather was Philip Galligan and he married Mary Conway in around 1893.  I see in the above discussion that Col says there was a marriage for Mary Conway in 1893 and I would love to know if it happens to show who she married.  We are really struggling with tracing Philip and Mary.  We know they were in the census for Knocktemple, Munterconnaught in 1901 and 1911 and they also had their children there in the late 1890s and early 1900s.

    Thank you

    Kate
