My great grandmother was Letitia Elliott from Derryhoo, Belturbet.

Along with her brothers, Robert and John, she came to the town of Lawrence, Otago, New Zealand for the gold rush in the 1860s.

Her sister Rosanna went to New York in America.

Her parents were William and Mary and I have photos of a farm cottage. There was an Uncle Robert also with a farm.

It would be great to contact any living relatives to share information.

  • I have now found that one of William and Mary's children, Lucy, stayed in Ireland. She married William Gregg. They had 7 children and the youngest, Robert, farmed at Ballyhugh. William and Lucy Gregg are at Derryhoo in the 1901 census. William died in 1909 and Lucy in 1929.

Both Lucy and William are buried in St. Columbas Parish Church in Drumlane. Their son Robert and his wife Matilda are also buried there. He died in 1969 and his wife Matilda in 1972.
