Hi All,

Seeking more info on my great great grandfather George LOVETT's family. George was bc 1800 (1798 and 1802 also given in some records) in Belturbet (according to his military pension records) presumed Protestant. George had a brother Adam b c 1805 Belturbet and a brother Irwin or Erwin bc 1810 place unknown.

By 1841 the family had moved to Killtrasna townland , Killeshandra  and are listed in the 1841 census of Ireland. They comprised- William (Head of household George's brother) , George (pensioner bc 1800), Charles (Brother), Mary Ann (Sister bc 1828), Mary Ann (nee Irwin)(mother). Also listed in the census were James (father, died 1831), James (brother moved to America), Jane (sister bc 1796 moved to America), Irwin (died in army) , Adam (brother, still in army)

Parents James and Mary Ann were apparently married in 1794.

I know there are some other LOVETT families in the Drumlane area by the time of Civil registration but these are too late for my family. My George LOVETT married Margaret BIGGS (20 years his junior) of Drumbullion townland Killeshandra sometime between the census of 1841 and (presumably) the birth of their first known child William in 1845. They may have married in Scotland . They emigrated to New Zealand in 1847 with children William, John and May Ann.

Are there any church records available that would cover the years I am interested in? How would I access them?

I am interested in not only tracing James LOVETT and Mary Ann (Irwin) but also George's siblings.

William LOVETT was still farming at Kiltrasna in the Griffiths valuation but I have found no other records of BMD for him or any other member of the family.

Any help appreciated

Regards

Jane

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Roots Ireland has baptismal records for Drumlane C of I starting in 1875 and marriages starting 1828. This link shows that the earlier baptismal records were destroyed in the 1922 Public Records Office fire in Dublin.

I did not find a George Lovett marriage on Roots. The only Lovett marriage was a John in 1864 and his father was John. See below.

  • Many thanks Roger, that's a blow about the earlier parish records :-( . Family probably lost forever I guess. John son of John is likely to be a later relative but tracing the link is almost certainly impossible.

My George did have a son John, he was reported killed in the NZ land wars in 1864 (although I have found evidence that he was alive and kicking several months after his presumed death!)

Thanks for the look up , much appreciated

    Cheers

    Jane
