McMorrow/McGlynn Families

I located the February 1915 civil marriage record for Patrick McMorrow and Ellen McGlynn. The names of the fathers is shown and where they lived. See below. NOTE no civil birth images are on www.irishgenealogy.ie after 1915 at this time.

I did locate the 1911 census record for the McGlynn family in Tuam townland but they did not appear to be in that townland in 1901. The townland for the McMorrows appears to be Cornagem but I can't find a townland by that name.

I also located a transcription of Ellen's baptismal record in 1886. Her mother was Anne Wynn. See below

The family you located in Legeelan townland in 1901 is the same family that I located in Tuam in 1911. Note the occupation for both records is tin smith. Also, the Irish were not very concerned about age and this is reflected in the ages shown in the 1901 census which were generally understated and in other cases very understated. In 1908 the British government passed the Old Age Pension Act which provided a pension to those age 70 as long as their income was below a certain level. Accurate age became very important for the pension and you will see many cases where someone like Patrick McGlynn were shown as twenty years older in the 1911 census compared to the 1901 census.

Patrick died in 1917. You will note that his daughter Ellen McMorrow was the informant so she married.

I could not find a death record for Anne McGlynn.

In general, you can use www.irishgenealogy.ie to try to locate civil marriage records for any children of Patrick and Anne. That site also has civil birth records from 1864-1915.

Hi Roger,

I have a fascinating surname here.

The Birth of Anne Wynn helped me find her mother and father's names.

However the mothers maiden name is undecipherable (to me at least). see attached.

I'm looking at 392. Father easy: Bernard Wynn

But mother = MAry ....?  MAYAURAN or something like it..... look above in 391 that name is written again I think.

I can find no Irish name like this.... have you ever heard of it before please?

.... just figured it out.... MAGAURAN..... now it makes sense. (that G really looked like a 'Y')

I have just realised that it seems impossible to trace ancestors back much before the 1850's. Nothing seems to come up in my searches.... I presume this is because the records were lost?

I am also tracing the McGlynn family from Cavan.  My great great grandfather was Patrick Francis McGlynn who came to Australia in 1858.  Parents - Michael McGlynn and Mary Ann Murray.  Happy for you to be in contact with me should you find any connection.

How exciting - I started doing this research months ago and didn't really expect any replies. Thank you for this.

I lost my parents so long ago, when I was quite young and therefore never had the chance to chat about our ancestors.

I do have a photo of a 'Vincent McGlynn' in my old black and white photo album and always wondered how he fits in.

I have seen a photo of a grave in killnagh which is inscribed with his name.. but of course this may be another Vincent McGlynn.

Neverthess it is possible it is the same one.

I'd love to connect with living members of my extended family since sadly I have never lived in Ireland.
