I am trying to trace my family history.

My uncle, who has since passed away, in collaboration with another relative traced it back to a Jane Neelin born 1746.  I have been attempting to duplicate this information as well as carry on further.

It appears as if this branch of the Neelin clan all emigrated to the Gouldbourne (Ottawa) area Canada in or about 1825.

  • Hi William,

Thank you very much for your message and for sharing your family tree-you and your uncle have done a great job! I hope that someone with information makes a connection with you and helps you to further your research.

Unfortunately, it may be difficult to go further back as there are not that many records available prior to this-in fact you are actually quite lucky to be able to even get back as far as 1746. It may be an idea to contact Cavan Genealogy to see if they can be of any assistance. Here is their email address:

  • Hi Bill,

I'm a fourth-great-granddaughter of Jane who married into the Neelins in the late 1700's, descending from her son William Neelin.

I have information on the descendants sourced initially from a handwritten note on her family history written by my great-grandmother Sarah Jane (Acton) Bates, which I have been able to flesh out further with Canadian census records and birth, marriage and death registrations.  Let me know if you're interested and I can send some reports your way.

I, too, have been unable to get back any further than Jane, although I suspect her Neelin husband was named Joseph, given that's what her first born son was named.

    Best wishes,

    Liisa Carbone
